Every spring, when the first baskets of strawberries from Île d’Orléans appear at my local market, I know summer is (finally) here. Île d’Orléans is a large island sitting on the St. Lawrence River, just 20 minutes outside of Québec City. The island is largely rural, which earns it the nickname “Québec City’s pantry.”
Among all the delicious fruits and vegetables cultivated on the island are strawberries, and these strawberries have the reputation of being among the best (if not the best) in the province. Île d’Orléans strawberries are sold all around the province, and every year, I feel lucky to be able to enjoy them, knowing they were picked mere hours before I got to buy a basket.

Of course, every year, I eat baskets and baskets of strawberries, but I also love to make desserts with them. Some of my favorite strawberry desserts include a spectacular galette, an elegant gelato, and some crave-worthy cookies. But a few years ago, I had strawberries that were so perfectly plump and juicy and so incredibly sweet that I immediately thought of turning them into a strawberry mojito cocktail.
I love mojito cocktails: they’re so delicious and easy to make! Plus, I always have mint growing on the patio every summer, so making one is very often my Friday afternoon treat. This fresh strawberry mojito cocktail is made with a bright red strawberry puree, which sweetens the drink just so. The zesty lime juice nicely balances out that sweetness and makes the cocktail incredibly refreshing. Make one (or three) and cheer to a never-ending summer! One can always hope, right?
Super ripe summer strawberries are the sweetest and the juiciest. They’re also the most aromatic, which means they make the best puree and, in turn, the best strawberry mojito cocktail.
If you can’t find top-quality strawberries, or if you find yourself craving this strawberry mojito cocktail slightly out of season (I wouldn’t blame you!), you can use frozen strawberries, which are generally packaged at their ripest.
You can make larger batches of the strawberry puree and freeze it for later. Be extra clever and freeze it in Les fraîches du Québec so you can always reach for the perfect quantity needed in a cocktail!
This beautifully bright pink, super sweet strawberry puree is so delicious, you will find yourself wanting to drizzle it anywhere and everywhere—as you should! Add it to your morning yogurt or granola, serve it over gelato or cake, turn it into popsicles, or simply enjoy it by the spoonful. You can’t go wrong!
A mojito is usually made with mint, and this strawberry mojito cocktail is delicious with it. But for a change, try swapping in fresh basil. Strawberry and basil go wonderfully well together, and you’ll be amazed at the aromas they can add to this cocktail!
It’s really easy to scale up this recipe for strawberry mojitos. Double or triple the quantities or more—why not make a full pitcher of it to treat a group of friends at cocktail hour?

Cheers, Dennis!
My husband loves traditional mojito, and I decided to surprise him with your lovely strawberry version. He and his friends loved it… It is defenetly our new must have coctail for parties, thanks!
This cocktail is a beautiful twist on the classic! Perfect for warm summer evenings.
The sun is here and shining beautifully. Looking for many summer drinks recipes that are not delicious but involves fruit too. Making this one this afternoon, looks so refreshing!
Hope you liked it Hayley!
What a fun and refreshing twist on a classic mojito! I especially love this idea for strawberry season when there are such delicious berries available!
It’s the best time to make this cocktail! In-season strawberries are so juicy and sweet; eating a handful is actually what inspired me to create this cocktail!
This is now my go to summer drink. It is sooo pretty and easy to sip on. I also tried it with the basil as you suggested, both great options!
I think I might like this cocktail with basil even more than with the mint! 🙊
Such a beautiful summer cocktail! Sounds so delicious and refreshing and would brighten up any tablescape this season ^_^
I sure get a lot of 😍 reactions when I put down a tray of these gorgeous cocktails on the table!

So refreshing, right?
This is so so refreshing and delicious! I loved using fresh strawberries in it. Such a fun, summery drink!
Happy you loved this beautiful mojito Tracy!
I made this strawberry mojito cocktail today. It turned out refreshing and fresh. The mocktail colors look fabulous and attractive too.
You can absolutely turn this cocktail into a mocktail! Simply omit the rum and you’re done. Easy peasy!
Sugar dissolved in hot water! Simply heat 1 part water to 1 equal part sugar (1 cup water to 1 cup sugar, for example), and heat together until sugar is dissolved and syrup is translucent (there’s usually no need to boil it). You can bottle this syrup and keep it in the fridge for a really long time.
hi that looks very refreshing but could i ask what is simple syrup?
