Every spring, when the first baskets of strawberries appear at my local market, I know summer is (finally) here. There’s a special place in my heart for the ones from Île d’Orléans, an island sitting on the St. Lawrence River, just 20 minutes outside of Québec City. These incredibly juicy, ruby red marvels are what inspired me to create this strawberry mojito cocktail recipe a few years ago.

Of course, every year, I do eat baskets and baskets of strawberries, but I also love to make desserts with them. Some of my favorite strawberry desserts include a spectacular galette, an elegant gelato, and some crave-worthy cookies. But a few years ago, the strawberries I got from the market were so perfectly plump and juicy and so incredibly sweet that I immediately thought of turning them into a strawberry mojito recipe.
This fresh strawberry drink has since become my official “summer is here” celebration. It’s everything I love about a classic mojito, but the juicy addition of fresh strawberries takes it to another, tasty level. The quick strawberry puree gives the cocktail a beautiful, rosy blush and a wave of fresh, fruity sweetness. That brightness, combined with a sharp lime kick and fragrant mint, makes this one of the most refreshing strawberry cocktails you’ll ever try!
This strawberry mojito cocktail is simple, beautiful, and tastes exactly like summer should!
Let’s be honest, nothing beats a fresh, sun-ripened strawberry from the market. If you can get them, use them! That peak-season sweetness is what this drink is all about.
That said, you can absolutely make this cocktail year-round using frozen strawberries. They work beautifully—just let them thaw before you blend them up.
The strawberry puree I use in my strawberry mojito cocktail is a fantastic little recipe to have on hand for all sorts of drinks with strawberry puree. All you do is blend a cup of hulled strawberries with a tablespoon or two of sugar and a tiny squeeze of lime juice until it’s smooth.
Pro tip: Make extra strawberry puree and keep it in a jar in the fridge. It’s amazing on gelato or cake, or swirled into your morning yogurt.
A mojito is usually made with mint, but for a change, try swapping in fresh basil. Strawberry and basil go wonderfully well together, and you’ll be amazed at the aromas they can add to this cocktail!
Go for a light or white rum. You want the rum to support the other flavors, not overpower them. A heavier spiced or dark rum will simply bully the delicate strawberry and mint flavors in your strawberry mojito cocktail, and you’ll lose that lovely flavor balance.
Here’s a key mojito secret: be nice to your mint! The goal is to gently release its fragrant oils, not smash it to bits (which makes it bitter). Just a few gentle presses and twists with a muddler or the back of a spoon is all you need. Once you can smell that lovely minty aroma, you’re done.
It’s so easy to turn this strawberry mojito cocktail into a mocktail! Simply skip the rum. After you’ve muddled the mint and added the puree, top the glass with more club soda. For a sweeter version, sparkling lemonade is also a great choice. All these refreshing options allow everyone to enjoy a festive drink, even kids!
Don’t get stuck making these one by one at a party! To make a pitcher of this strawberry mojito cocktail, do everything on a larger scale. Muddle your mint and lime wedges in the bottom of the pitcher, stir in the puree and rum, and then right before serving, add ice and top with club soda. Give it a gentle stir, and you’re ready to pour.
A beautifully garnished cocktail just tastes better, don’t you think? To give this already beautiful strawberry mojito cocktail an extra lovely finishing touch, pop a sprig of fresh mint and a whole strawberry on the rim of the glass. These simple garnishes will make your drinks look fantastic and take no time at all.

What a fun and refreshing twist on a classic mojito! I especially love this idea for strawberry season when there are such delicious berries available!
It’s the best time to make this cocktail! In-season strawberries are so juicy and sweet; eating a handful is actually what inspired me to create this cocktail!
This is now my go to summer drink. It is sooo pretty and easy to sip on. I also tried it with the basil as you suggested, both great options!
I think I might like this cocktail with basil even more than with the mint! 🙊

I made this strawberry mojito cocktail today. It turned out refreshing and fresh. The mocktail colors look fabulous and attractive too.
You can absolutely turn this cocktail into a mocktail! Simply omit the rum and you’re done. Easy peasy!
Sugar dissolved in hot water! Simply heat 1 part water to 1 equal part sugar (1 cup water to 1 cup sugar, for example), and heat together until sugar is dissolved and syrup is translucent (there’s usually no need to boil it). You can bottle this syrup and keep it in the fridge for a really long time.
hi that looks very refreshing but could i ask what is simple syrup?
