Welcome to my Cooking with Friends series! Every two weeks, I invite some of my favorite food writing and blogging friends to share recipes with you. I hope you’ll have just as much fun cooking and baking with them as I do.

Today, I’m welcoming Fida from Sweet and Savoury Pursuits. Fida is a Canadian food lover living in Ottawa and her blog is full of crowd-pleasing, colorful recipes that are both elegant and approachable. Just like the name of her blog reveals, Fida enjoys cooking sweet and savory dishes, but I gotta admit I have a soft spot for her scrumptious dessert recipes. Today, she’s sharing her recipe to make a rustic Blueberry Almond Crumble Galette. Enjoy!

With the end of summer fast approaching, I find myself wanting to take full advantage of all the fresh seasonal fruit by consuming them at every possible opportunity. Finding ways to add fruit to salads, mains, and desserts is always lots of fun. But fruit desserts remain my favorite way to consume them. Galettes, in particular, are a delicious way to enjoy seasonal fruits and are an excellent way to use up extra fruit such as berries or stone fruit like plums, peaches, and nectarines.

Since I especially love baking with blueberries, I’m always looking for ways to include them in my baked sweets. My favorite blueberry desserts are those where they transform into a jam-like consistency such as in pies or cobblers. But I find making pies time-consuming since I’m always fussing over the pie crust to make it look perfect. But with a galette, there is no need for perfection as galettes are meant to be rustic.

For this particular galette, I decided to combine the delicious flavors of blueberries and almonds. I added some ground almonds to the dough, which gave the crust a light and flaky texture with just a little crunch. I also added a bit of marzipan to the blueberry filling and then topped the blueberries with an almond crumble, a mixture of butter, flour, marzipan, and sliced almonds. I found the combination of blueberries and almonds made this Blueberry Almond Crumble Galette absolutely delicious.

This galette is delicious served warm or at room temperature with a scoop of vanilla ice cream but can also be served cold if you prefer it that way. If you are pressed for time you can also make the galette a day ahead of time and warm it up slightly before serving. You can definitely make this galette using more than just blueberries, I find peaches and nectarines go really well with blueberries and a combination would be really delicious. Finally, though the almond crumble makes this dessert extra special, it can be omitted and you can let the fruit be the star of this dessert!

My family really enjoyed this galette, I hope that yours will as well!

My name is Fida, and I have a passion for food. I think good food should be celebrated and I take joy in cooking for others and love making people happy through food. I started Sweet and Savoury Pursuits about 3 and a half years ago. It started out as a space for me to share some of my favourite recipes as well as my adventures in the kitchen. Before I knew it my passion for cooking and baking grew into a passion for food photography and styling. So now my blog is as much about my journey learning food photography and styling as it is about the food and the recipes.
