Meet Mayssam Samaha, author of the food and travel blog Will Travel for Food. Born and raised in Lebanon, Mayssam lived in New York City before settling in Montreal some 20 years ago. She travels all over the world and writes about it on her blog, and she’s also a regular contributor to many other websites. I especially enjoy her posts about Montreal’s restaurant and foodie scene, as she’s very well connected in the city and always has new and delicious spots to recommend.

New York City. I’ve traveled to a lot of places around the world and have fallen in love with many cities – Rome, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Havana – but New York is where my heart lies. I lived there for 3 years when I was 17 and it will always be my home away from home. It is a constant source of inspiration to me. The minute I get into THE city, I feel re-energized. It’s as if the air is almost electric. Whether I’m walking around aimlessly or towards a specific goal, there’s always something to see, something to listen to and of course, something to taste. The food scene is in a constantly evolving state, whether it’s in a high-end restaurant or a food truck.

Ramen. I have so many food memories from New York. I moved there when I was 17 straight from Lebanon and everything tasted different and so… American! From the bagels to the pizza to the frozen yogurt, I walked around the city eating all day! I believe I gained 10 kilos that first year! Today, the Momofuku pork buns, cookies and cake truffles are always part of my itinerary when I visit. On my last visit, I had a bowl of ramen at Ippudo and it was a revelation, the revelation that I’ve never really had a bowl of ramen until this one! It will be on my itinerary for each visit to the city from now on.
