I’ve been a bit more silent than usual lately. You’ll have to excuse me. For the last two weeks, I’ve been working hard on a new job – testing recipes for a book! I’m absolutely ecstatic to have this opportunity.
Behind the book is Nutra Fruit, a small, Quebec City-based company that makes cranberry-based products. The company was founded and managed by a very dynamic, enthusiastic and ambitious couple that I came to meet a few years ago when I was running my cooking school. I knew they were working on a cookbook and I was very happy for them (and a bit envious), because not only do they create innovative products with a great fruit that has multiple health benefits, but they maintain a very contemporary and unique image (as their product packaging and photos will tell you). Their project appealed to both my graphic design and foodie sides. I knew this could only be great.
I hadn’t heard from them in a while until recently, when they posted on Facebook that they needed some help with copywriting and finding a publisher. I thought this was too good to be true and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. I contacted them. They asked me to test their recipes and I gladly accepted!
The cranberry is a fruit that’s traditionally relegated to holidays, but it shouldn’t be so. There are so many things to do with its bright red color and tart taste that marries to sweet and savory flavors just as well. Up to now, I’ve tasted a wide range of recipes from appetizers (a fruity tartar and a baked Brie cheese) to main courses based on fish or duck. I also learned how to make my own fresh, unsweetened cranberry juice (which is a-w-e-s-o-m-e in my Friday night Cosmopolitans) and dried, sweetened cranberries (a really great and healthy snack).
I have to admit, this is close to the dream job for me. All right, who am I kidding? This IS a dream job for me. It fits my curious, organized and meticulous nature perfectly, and I get to eat wonderfully – AND get inspiration and material for my blog, all at the same time. It’s so right, I can barely contain myself! Of course, I won’t be divulging any of the recipes before the book is published (which should be right before this year’s holiday season), but believe me, I’m sure you’ll love them as much as I do when you try these recipes for yourself.

They’re not paying me to tell you this; they really are just a great and passionate company that deserves to get into the spotlight.
